An announcement of big excitement for us at SeriouslyAverageGamers, the Demon Souls Remake is real! There were plenty of rumours, but it was confirmed at the PS5 reveal event, which I’ve done a whole article on if you’re interested!
If you don’t know Demon Souls, it’s the predecessor to the massively successful, and challenging, Dark Souls franchise made by FromSoftware.
The original 2009 release still sits at a strong 89/100 and 8.8/10 on Metacritic. This is mightily impressive given it’s almost unprecedented difficulty level.
Something of a cult classic, or even just a normal classic, fans have been calling for a Demon Souls remaster since the Dark Souls franchise signed itself off with Dark Souls 3.
Sony, and Bluepoint, have gone one step further and committed to a full blown remake!
Safe to say it looks stunning, and you can see a ton of comparison videos online to prove it. Here’s an example video from IGN:
Rather good looking right? While the fact it’s getting re-released isn’t a surprise, I think a lot of fans were expecting a remaster. But it’s been confirmed as a ground up remake, which usually means new assets, new/ updated levels, and new/ improved mechanics. Just look at our Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3 reviews for examples of how well this can go.
Not a bad haul, for a 2009 game.
The actual remake is being primarily worked on by Bluepoint, the company behind the fantastic Shadow of The Colossus remake a few years back. A good pedigree, a good game, a good system, and a massive fanbase.
Almost no way this can go wrong right? Demon Souls Remake doesn’t have a release date right now, but it will definitely only be available on PS5. This will work in the game’s favour, as the game can be designed to take full advantage of everything the PS5 has to offer without worrying about compatibility.
Are you looking forward to the Demon Souls Remake? Let us know in the comments!
I’ve been playing video games in some form or another for nearly two decades. My favourite campaign of all time is Halo: Combat Evolved and my favourite multiplayer of all time is Overwatch, with a dash of Halo 3. Huge lover of everything gaming, no matter the platform or source, and I enjoy a story driven campaign like nothing else!
