Godfall was one of the few titles shown at the PS5 reveal event that we’d actually seen before! Speaking of the event, I wrote an article here that acts as a rundown for the whole thing.
Godfall, if you don’t remember the original announcement at The Game Awards back in December, is an action RPG being developed for PC and PS5.
I say action RPG, but there’s been a couple of different descriptors for Godfall. Taken from its Wikipedia page:
“The game is set in a high fantasy setting, split into the realms of Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Spirit, where players take the role of one of the last exalted Knight’s Order to prevent a major apocalyptic event.”
“The game is described as a “looter-slasher” as while based on the loot shooter concept of completing missions and gaining better loot for further quests, the focus of the combat is on melee attacks rather than ranged ones.”
This is a seriously interesting concept for me. For one, I’ve a softspot for looters. Just in general. I’ve played Destiny 1 & 2, Division, Anthem, Diablo, and Minecraft Dungeons (which I’ve reviewed here).
Being described as a looter-slasher is also intriguing, because I have a mixed history with hack ‘n’ slash titles. I quite like Devil May Cry, but I’m not a huge fan of the original God of War titles for instance. Although I loved God of War 2018.
The only problem I can foresee with Godfall is one of originality. I can see a ton of other games in this looter-slasher-action-RPG, but not a ton of original personality or presentation.
This might not be a bad thing, a well made game is just as important as a unique game, but I haven’t seen enough evidence of either just yet.
That being said, I am looking forward to giving it a go. The word looter just hooks me… what can I say?
Interestingly, Windows Central has Godfall listed as a “timed exclusive”. If this is true, then it’s likely we’ll see it on Xbox Series consoles going forward.

I’ve been playing video games in some form or another for nearly two decades. My favourite campaign of all time is Halo: Combat Evolved and my favourite multiplayer of all time is Overwatch, with a dash of Halo 3. Huge lover of everything gaming, no matter the platform or source, and I enjoy a story driven campaign like nothing else!
